Peicins - Molls Gap Area
A text message from Phil to say they were doing the Peicins. I met up with herself and Sheila at Molly Darcy's and drove to Galways Bridge, where we parked. On arrival Phil found her platypus empty, it had leaked in her car on the way from Castleisland. We shared our water with her. Phil was also wearing ankle support on one leg after hurting it some time ago, I was hoping it would slow her a bit, I was being mean because I would not wish any harm on Phil.
The climb up the Eagle's Nest area was not too hard and I kept up no trouble. The walk across Foardal was good, even though a bit heavy underfoot. The climb up Derrygarriff was slow and hard, and I found it hard to keep up. I was very glad when Phil suggested lunch on the top.
The march on to Peakeen was slow, with heavy underfoot conditions and plenty of slab-climbing, and I was good and tired when I got to the top of it. On the top we met a man from Kenmare and he was kind enough to give us a half bottle of orange for which we were very thankful. We descended to the Kerry Way and walked back to the cars. The walk out was longer than we expected. A 6 1/2 hr. day.
